We invite our members and the auction industry to our pre-contest educational seminar by Brian Rigby on Monday, August 13, 2018, in Des Moines. Founding the Professional Ringmen’s Institute in 1996, Brian and his team of professional instructors have had the pleasure of training and improving the performance of hundreds of great people in our live auction industry. Conducting seminars and custom training for many state associations and auction teams, Brian is excited to be part of this year’s Monday education to conduct a Professional Ring Person seminar for the Iowa Auctioneers Association.
Brian Rigby Bio
A Two-Time Champion Auctioneer, Brian Rigby has been serving the Auction and Equine Industries professionally for over thirty years. A graduate of UMC, Brian attended Missouri Auction School in 1981 and has successfully conducted auctions in 35 states, as well as in Canada and Europe. His auction company, B A Rigby & Associates, specializes in marketing upscale Residential, Recreational, Commercial, Ranch and Development properties. Brian has served as Auctioneer, Announcer, or Sale Manager at many of the nation's major Equestrian Events managing a variety of Equine Sales since 1981.
Brian served as Associate Director of Advertising for The Quarter Horse Journal in Amarillo, Texas where he also traveled for the Journal as a Ringman learning from the best Equine Auctioneers and Ringmen in the industry. After his first few sales, working with the Professional Ringmen who represented the Quarter Horse Journal, Brian realized that there was a tremendous difference between a Ringman and a bidspotter and he quickly recognized the contributions and value of a true Professional.
He left the Journal in January of 1981 to establish his Auction and Equine Sale Management company. For over two decades, Rigby Equine Sales managed numerous dispersals, production, and consignment sales. Brian was also on the auction team with Vessels Stallion Farm in Bonsall, California where they set a record by selling a Race Bred Quarter Horse yearling for an all-time high of $750,000.
At one time during his career, he was selling over 300 auctions per year, and he still sells over 100 auctions annually. Brian recalls a very special day in his auction career when he won his first championship auctioneer title and met his mentor, Leroy Van Dyke the same day.
Brian and his family reside only minutes from Springfield, Missouri where they enjoy the rural life in the beautiful Southern Missouri Ozarks. His oldest son, Brett currently resides in Las Vegas, where he is the lead singer with his Brett Rigby band. He also serves effectively as a Professional Ringman for his Father when his schedule permits. His youngest son, Brenan, graduated from Springfield’s MSU this year and he also assists as a Professional Ringman … when it doesn’t conflict with his many professional activities.
