On January 25, 2020, the Iowa Auctioneers Association (IAA) inducted Chris Richard, Cedar Falls, Iowa into the Iowa Auctioneers Hall of Fame.
Richard started in the auction business as a runner for his parents’ auction service, making ten cents for each clerking sheet he carried. In 1987, age of 11, he attended the World Wide College of Auctioneering. After graduating, his hard work continued, as he made sure the growing number of bidders stayed on track by holding the Selling Now sign. It didn’t take long before this new auctioneer moved up in responsibilities—and made the title of ringman.
On January 25, Joseph Bair, 31, of Elkhart, Iowa was named the Iowa State Champion Auctioneer at the 2020 Iowa Auctioneer Convention in West Des Moines, Iowa. Bair is a first-generation auctioneer and a member of the Iowa Auctioneers Association (IAA). Growing up in the livestock industry, Bair fell in love with the auction atmosphere and the excitement while attending sales. He graduated from the Worldwide College of Auctioneering in June 2016 and takes on sales through being a contract auctioneer. In the past years, Bair’s highlights in competing are 2nd runner-up in 2019, 3rd runner-up in 2018, and rookie honors in 2017.
