LIVE AUCTION CONTEST TO BENEFIT THREE MIDWEST CHILDREN’S HOSPITALS
Supporting Midwest Children's Hospitals
The Iowa Auctioneer Association (IAA) is raising money to benefit three children’s hospitals in Iowa and Minnesota as part of their annual Iowa State Champion Auctioneers Contest at the Iowa State Fair.
The contest will take place Tuesday, August 15 at 9:00 a.m. at the Anne and Bill Riley Stage, just north of the Walnut Center & Iowa Craft Beer Tent. This contest is held under normal auction conditions, is open to the public, and free to watch. The public is encouraged to participate. All proceeds will benefit Blank Children’s Hospital of Des Moines, University of Iowa Children’s Hospital in Iowa City, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the Twin Cities.
Honoring An Icon
The contest also will honor an auction industry icon, Steve Greenfield from Palm Harbor, Florida, as Grand Marshall. Greenfield is a two-time Auctioneer Contest Champion winning in 1981 and again in 1983. Greenfield has conducted business for 45 years in the Des Moines area and abroad. During the 2017 contest, Greenfield will be auctioning off a large autographed gavel presented to him for raising a large sum at a fundraising event many years ago.
“Although it is a keepsake of mine, this cause is where I would like the proceeds to be donated to,” said Greenfield.

Lowe’s Home Improvement has graciously donated all the contest’s bidding merchandise. Five local stores supplied Kobalt Tool items for the live auction. Their support has made this event possible.
Twenty professional auctioneers from Iowa, Missouri, and Nebraska will compete for the title of “Iowa State Champion Auctioneer” and a cash prize of $1,000. To qualify for this prestigious annual event, contestants must compete in a preliminary auctioneering contest in February during the annual IAA convention. Contestants exhibit their talents and are scored to establish the top twenty finalists for the Iowa State Fair contest.
Can’t make it to the fair on Tuesday? No problem! The bidders can support this great event by placing prior bids or joining in live through bidspotter.com.
