Ed ShoverED SHOVER INDUCTED INTO THE IOWA AUCTIONEERS ASSOCIATION HALL OF FAME

Ed Shover of Anamosa was announced as the 42nd inductee into the Iowa Auctioneers Association’s (IAA) Hall of Fame during the organization’s annual convention February 5-7, 2010.

After attending auctioneering school, Shover began his work in the auction industry by volunteering his calling services at auctions for non-profit organizations; including Ducks Unlimited, Turkey Federation, and Pheasants Forever.

Shover maintains his own auctioneering business, Ed Shover Auctions, while working with and assisting other auctioneers. Shover is a long time member of the IAA, serving on the Board of Directors and as President in 2006.

Shover also mentors young auctioneers, offering them work with his company and encouragement in a competitive profession.

The Iowa Auctioneers Association congratulates Ed Shover on his years of service and leadership in the auctioneering industry, and is honored to announce him as the 42nd Hall of Fame inductee. 2009 Iowa State Champion Auctioneer Emily Wears

Emily Wears of Solon, Iowa was named the 2009 Champion Auctioneer at yesterday’s IAA Bid Calling Contest Finals. The contest was held at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines, Iowa. Click here to see a YouTube video of Emily in Action.

Reserve Champion was Christopher Richard of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Also finishing in the top five spots were David Whitaker of Ames, Iowa, first runner up; Seth Steinhoff of Smithland, Iowa, second runner up; and Steve Maynes of Dexter, Iowa, third runner up. World Wide College of Auctioneering Offering the John O'Rourke Memorial Scholarship

The World Wide College of Auctioneering is offering the John O'Rourke Memorial Scholarship. This memorial scholarship is being offered by the family of John O'Rourke to honor John's legacy as a successful Auctioneer. John graduated from World Wide College of Auctioneering (aka Reisch Auctioneer School) in 1981. This scholarship is intended for a deserving person that has the desire to attend auction school to pursue the auction profession as a full-tim career and who in honest, intelligent and sincere in their pursuit of their life goals.

One Full Tuition Scholarship will be awarded ($1,295.00). All other expenses including room and board and meals are the responsibility of the scholarship recipient. Membership dues to the Iowa Auctioneers Association will also be paid in full for one year to the scholarship recipient, and he or she will have the opportunity to attend the IAA Annual Conference in February free of charge.

2009 Preliminary Bid Calling Contest
Thirty-one contestants competed in the Preliminary Round of the 2009 Bid Calling Contest, held during the Iowa Auctioneers Association Annual Meeting.

Auction Topper Truck
Auction Topper Truck made by IAA member Jim Huff for the NAF Auction at the NAA Conference & Show in July. The truck raised the most money by any state association for the NAF; selling three times its value, for a total of $3,250.
